Is a certification required to start a teaching position?

​

Yes, Texas certification is required for all teaching positions. Our district also accepts certification through alternative certification programs.

​

Does Tyler ISD pay monthly or bi-monthly?

​

Tyler ISD pays educators, professionals, and support staff employees on a monthly basis. Auxiliary employees are paid on a bi-monthly basis. 

​

Can I attend orientation if my transcripts and/or service records haven't been sent to Tyler ISD?

 

Yes, you may attend an orientation prior to service records and/or transcripts being received.

​

Does Tyler ISD hire retired teachers?

​

Currently, Tyler ISD does not hire retired Texas teachers for a full time teaching positions. We do welcome retired teachers for substitute positions with the district.

Does Tyler ISD hire international teachers?

Do I need a degree to become a substitute teacher?

 

No. You are able to substitute as a paraprofessional with a high school diploma or GED. If you have over 60 college credit hours, you may substitute in teacher positions as well.

What is the process to apply to be a sub?

​

You must complete the online application and select “Substitute Jobs” on the Career Opportunities Screen. After submitting your application you will receive a confirmation email with a link to a pre-screen survey, which is also required. Once your application and pre-screen survey have been reviewed for approval, you will be contacted with information on an orientation date. 

​

Does Tyler ISD offer paid holidays?

​

Support employees are employed at will and receive notification of the required duty days, holidays, and hours of work for their position on an annual basis. Your pay is based on your designated calendar work days for your position.

 

Does Tyler ISD offer vacation days?

​

Tyler ISD provides state personal days and local sick leave days. The number of days provided is determined each year by the school calendar.
